Kindergarten 2025

KINDER TRANSITION

Starting school is a major milestone. It is the beginning of new friendships, routines, and the road to a lifetime of learning for the whole family. Beginning school is an exciting time for families but we acknowledge that is a big change in both you and your child’s life.

At Warners Bay Public School we offer a comprehensive transition program to make this change a positive experience for your child and you as parents.

Our Kindergarten team organise and run a variety of sessions for both parents and children. As our transition sessions are not a one-off you and your child will have ample opportunities to ask questions and discuss your child’s needs.

Our transition period is designed to be fun and get children excited about beginning school while also easing any nerves. We also have great relationships with preschools to further facilitate each child’s move to school.

At Warners Bay Public School we offer the following Transition opportunities:

Kinder Club Playgroup

During Terms 3 and 4, WBPS holds a weekly playgroup session for our incoming preschool students.

The children will be able to play with the classroom toys, read a story, play on the fort, and complete a craft activity. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to meet some teachers and friends, as well as begin to become familiar with the school context. It is a great time to meet new families and find out information about the school.

Parents stay with their child during these sessions and students can attend on a casual basis.

More information will follow regarding times and registration for Kinder Club Playgroup closer to Term 3.

Formal School Orientation Program

In Term 4, students enrolled for Kinder 2025 at Warners Bay Public School are invited to attend four targeted sessions. During these sessions, parents leave their child with the teachers whilst they engage in more formal “school-like” activities. This gives the children an opportunity to experience the school setting without their parents with them, as well as the confidence to know that they can!

The first orientation session is a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. More information will be provided on these sessions closer to the date.

Buddies

Kinder students are buddied up to a Year 5 or 6 student to support them on their transition to primary school. The “Big Buddies” undergo training to give them strategies and guidance on how best to support their “Little Buddy”. The children get to form a lovely bond with their buddy, and the program provides another layer of support for the new students. Children are allocated a buddy during the transition program.

School Readiness Information Session

Our School Readiness Session is held during one of our formal orientation sessions in Term 4. It was designed as an opportunity for new and current parents to learn more about our school, teaching and learning programs, and the best ways to support your child on their transition to school.

Teachers will give practical advice that can be used to enhance your child’s beginning school journey. More information on this session will be provided before the commencement of the orientation program.

The new Brighter Beginnings Parent and Carer Information Hub has also been launched by the NSW Government and provides great resources supporting parents in the lead up to starting school.

School Tour

School tours will be held twice during Term 2 where you will meet a member of our executive team and get a personal tour around the school.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see our hard-working students in action, get a feel for our wonderful school and learn about the opportunities that will be on offer for your child throughout their primary education.

2024 school tours will be held on Monday 13th May at 9:20am and Friday 21st June at 2:15pm.

If you would like to attend one of these tours, please register here.
